Thanks to Firefox’s killer features, it is 2nd most popular browser on the planet. But the Trend and adoption is growing. As per the October stats, Firefox has already overtaken IE and has grabbed first place and trend will continue.

Despite its intuitive accessibility and powerfully customizable interface, the performance of this browser has been problematic. Often, we indulge in opening several tabs, Firefox becomes notorious and uses bulk amount of memory and processor. I’ve seen Firefox eating up a 750MB of RAM with 30 Tabs opened, eating 2GHz+ of CPU. With 20+ tabs Firefox becomes slow and unusable on PCs having low-end config. And if you have lots of Addons, which everyone has, it gets worse.

Coming to the solution, Try Firetune. It is a quick solution for augmenting the Firefox speeds. Giving particular attention to the speed of your Internet connection and that of your computer’s processor, Firetune adjusts several internal settings of Firefox for increased performance.

Firefox is quiet fast. But not as fast as Safari 4, Chrome 4 or Opera 10. Still, we can raise the speeds by 100% by doing following tweaks:

Go into Firefox configuration by enter about:config in the address bar.

1. Type network.http.pipelining in the filter bar and set it to true.
2. Type network.http.pipelining.maxrequests in the filter bar. The default value is 4. Change it to 16. You can also change this value to larger number, which means firefox will make more requests at once.
3. Type network.http.proxy.pipelining in the filter bar and set it to true.
4. Type network.dns.disableIPv6 in the filter bar and set it to true.
